Nutella Ferrero Rocher Cookies Recipe

Nutella Ferrero Rocher Cookies Recipe

Some cookies are good enough on their own, but then there are the ones with a surprise hiding in the middle.

Chocolate, Nutella, and Ferrero Rocher…..I knew I was getting a little carried away with these cookies, but honestly, I wasn’t about to stop. 😂🍫

I had the chocolate cookie dough ready, but instead of keeping things simple, I folded in chopped Ferrero Rocher and decided to hide a little Nutella inside each cookie too.

That part was messy in the best way. Flattening the dough, placing the chilled Nutella in the middle, then carefully sealing everything back up felt a little like wrapping a surprise you already knew you were going to love. 😅

Once they came out of the oven, the edges were set, the centers were still soft, and those little pieces of Ferrero Rocher were peeking through the chocolate dough.

Breaking one open was the moment I was waiting for…..soft chocolate cookie, crunchy hazelnut pieces, and that creamy Nutella center. 🍫🤎

Rich, gooey, crunchy, and completely over-the-top…..these are definitely not the cookies I’d make when I’m trying to keep things simple.

I made 15 cookies, and somehow that number started feeling very optimistic. 😂

What Goes Into These Nutella Ferrero Rocher Cookies?

These cookies really come down to three things: rich chocolate dough, a soft Nutella center, and little pieces of Ferrero Rocher throughout.

Each one brings something different, which is what makes the cookies so much more fun than a regular chocolate cookie.

  • Chocolate Cookie Dough: Dutch-process cocoa creates the rich chocolate base.
  • Nutella Center: A frozen Nutella filling adds a creamy surprise inside each cookie.
  • Ferrero Rocher: Chopped Ferrero Rocher pieces add extra chocolate and hazelnut flavor throughout the dough.
  • Brown Sugar: Adds a deeper sweetness that works beautifully with the chocolate.
  • Egg Yolks: Add richness to the cookie dough.
  • Vanilla: Brings a subtle sweetness that rounds out the chocolate flavors.

The Nutella Center Is the Fun Part

The best part of these cookies is that you can’t really see the Nutella until you break one open.

The chocolate dough bakes around the frozen Nutella portion, creating a soft center inside the cookie. It gives you a different texture from the outside and makes the cookie feel a little more special than a standard chocolate cookie.

If you’re serving them warm, let them cool just enough that they’re easy to handle before breaking one open.

Easy Ways to Change These Cookies

  • Add chopped hazelnuts: Fold a small amount of chopped hazelnuts into the dough for extra crunch.
  • Use milk chocolate: Swap some of the Ferrero Rocher pieces for milk chocolate chunks if you prefer a sweeter chocolate flavor.
  • Add flaky sea salt: A small sprinkle over the cookies after baking adds a salty contrast to the chocolate and Nutella.
  • Make them extra chunky: Keep a few larger Ferrero Rocher pieces instead of chopping everything finely so you get bigger bites throughout the cookies.
  • Add a chocolate drizzle: Once the cookies have cooled, drizzle a little melted chocolate over the tops for an extra chocolate finish.

A Few Things You May Be Wondering

  1. Can I use regular cocoa powder instead of Dutch-process cocoa powder?
The recipe specifically calls for Dutch-process cocoa powder, so that is the version used here.
  2. Why does the Nutella need to be frozen?
The recipe uses frozen Nutella portions so they can be placed in the center of the cookie dough and wrapped before baking.
  3. How do I stop the Nutella from leaking out?
Make sure the dough completely covers the Nutella and that there are no open edges before rolling it into a ball.
  4. Can I use other chocolate instead of Ferrero Rocher?
Ferrero Rocher is what gives these cookies their hazelnut and chocolate combination. If you change it, the finished cookie will have a different texture and flavor.
  5. Can I eat these cookies warm?
Yes. Let them cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes first, then enjoy them slightly warm.
